High Voltage isn’t sharing their game engine
BY Matthew Razak Jun. 16th, 2009 More on:

Do you remember when you saw this, and you thought “Why the hell don’t all Wii games look that good?” Then you saw some footage from The Conduit and you thought the exact same thing. Well the engine creating the graphics that make you think that is called the Quantum 3 Engine (Q3) and it was built from the ground up by High Voltage, the guys behind The Conduit. Every time I see Eric Nosfinger, the chief creative officer at High Voltage, I beg him to sell the engine to other companies so we can get more games looking this good on the Wii. Sadly, it doesn’t look like they’re selling… yet.

Speaking with TVGB at E3 Nofsinger said, “It’s something that we’ve been approached a lot on and right now we’re focused on trying to be a really high quality developer. We’re really not set up to sell or support engines. We’re just trying to make great games. I wouldn’t rule it out entirely, but not now. It is one of those things — after you get approached a lot about it you start going ‘Well, maybe we’re leaving a lot of money on the table here.’”

Hear that? Quickly bum rush High Voltage’s email with requests to buy the engine. You don’t have to actually buy it at some point, just pretend to be interested so they will release it to companies who can actually buy it and then all our Wii games can be just as pretty as The Conduit, Gladiator A.D. and The Grinder.

i honestly think it looks very good…..all of you are comparing it to a high definition system when the wii is not that. Just take it for what it is a very well designed engine for the wiii and ment for the wii.

      @ Val

It’s perfectly legitimate to compare the Wii, it’s games and everything about it to it’s competitors. Not doing so would be irresponsible. Saying something looks amazing when compared only to itself is a very closed minded opinion. The truth is that it looks like a mediocre graphics engine trying to be something it’s not. The Wii is and can never be a hardcore gaming system. That’s not to say the Wii doesn’t have it’s place which it clearly does.
