Bionic Commando: Rearmed, trophied and a little nerfed
BY Lee Bradley Jun. 19th, 2009 More on:

Capcom have announced via their Unity blog that Bionic Commando: Rearmed is set to receive a free title update for both PlayStation Network and Xbox LIVE. The patch brings trophies to the PlayStation 3 version of the game and re-jigged difficulty settings for both PSN and XBLA.

In an effort to reduce the game’s legendary toughness, and make it more accessible to all you girly girls out there, devs GRIN have fiddled with the Easy and Normal settings. According to the blog, if you die, you will now respawn at the last solid ground you stood on, or the last checkpoint. Also, if you hook on to a platform then realise that your arm isn’t long enough to get to the next, you’ll be able to reel it back in. Lastly, if you swing into a wall while still attached with your arm, you’ll no longer disconnect and fall into that damn bottomless hole again, but bounce off the wall, stay connected, and pull yourself back up.

In amongst the nerfing they’ve also taken time to sort out a bug with the Super Joe Machine Gun. Now when you upgrade it, it will receive a larger clip of ammo, and also deal more damage. The guys over at Unity note that the Hard and Super Hard difficulty settings remain untampered with.

No news on exactly when this patch will arrive, but we do know it will be free, and that it’s rather nice they’re still paying attention to the game almost a year after release.

This is exactly why I love the idea of downloadable video games. I love the fact that you can get an update and continued work on a great game. In fact, I hope that someday we get away from sequels to a degree and just continue the story. I like to think of a game like Splinter Cell, just keep writing more story, adding new levels. While I understand this wouldn’t be free, I really like the idea of adding new levels instead of pushing out sequel after sequel.

Rearmed is a year old, but rest assured I’ll be playing it after the update.
