Mega Man continues to rock, man

Here’s a quick refresher for anyone who hasn’t been keeping up with the Mega Man franchise over the past two decades. While the original series hit Mega Man 9 this past fall, Capcom has also been pumping ridiculous amounts of dollars and yen out of the Blue Bomber with a plethora of sub-series. You’ve got X, Legends, Battle Network, Zero, ZX, and Star Force. Oh, and he’s also got his own kart racer. And his own soccer game. But that’s not what this article is about.

In the Land of the Rising Sun, Mega Man is known as Rockman. Consequently, Mega Man Battle Network boasts the Japanese title Rockman EXE, and Mega Man Star Force is instead Shooting Star Rockman. Now that we’re back up to speed, I feel comfortable saying that Capcom has just announced Rockman EXE Operate Shooting Star for the DS, set for Japanese release by year’s end.

By looking at the title, it’s easy to see that the game is some form of hybrid of the Battle Network and Star Force series. If your Mega Mandom has never been about these titles, that’s alright. It appears producer Takeshi Horninouchi might have a few more Mega Man games up his sleeve for the upcoming 25th anniversary of the franchise.
