Do you know Toby Gard? No? Unsurprising really. But even if you don’t know him you’ll certainly know one of his creations; the buxom Lara Croft, star of the Tomb Raider franchise.

The experienced game designer, a stalwart from defunct developer Core Design, was brought in by Crystal Dynamics as a consultant to their interpretation of the Tomb Raider series, Tomb Raider Legend. Following that game’s success Gard became a Lead Designer for Tomb Raider Anniversary and, subsequently, Cinematic Director for Tomb Raider Underworld.

Despite that game’s average reception Gard once again finds himself spearheading development on an unannounced AAA project for Crystal Dynamics which is confirmed via his LinkedIn profile. Given Gard’s experience and the fact that Crystal Dynamics have recently announced mass layoffs it’s unsurprising the developer is looking to an experienced captain to pilot the ship.

What is the AAA title in question? Your guess is as good as ours. Perhaps it’s a next-gen reimagining of Chuck Rock? We can only hope.
