The hotly anticipated (by me) Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 for XBL Arcade and PSN will no longer be hitting its rumored street date of June 29, 2009. Apparently that actually was just a rumor and had no basis in reality at all. Using Twitter to give fans the horrible news in 140 characters or less, Capcom tweets, “MvC2 is not actually coming out on June 29, sorry guys. Not sure where that rumor came from, but it’s going to be closer to the end of July.”
Apparently this was all due to Marvel’s Q4 press release (*.pdf) that has the game listed for a June 29th, 2009 release date. Maybe Marvel should get onto fixing that hiccup. But the really interesting thing about the release is the listing of a Spider-Man broadway musical lined up for next year titled Spider-Man, Turn off the Dark which has music written by Bono! What the hell?

Julie Taymor’s big broadway production “Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark” just got a little more interesting. According to the New York Post, Alan Cumming is in talks to play the Green Goblin! Cumming, of course, played Nightcrawler in another Marvel production, X2: X-Men United:
JULIE Taymor has cast forth her $40 million “Spider- Man” net and hauled in — Alan Cumming.
The actor, who won a Tony in 1999 for his memorable turn as the emcee in “Cabaret,” is in negotiations to play the Green Goblin in Taymor’s new musical, or “circus rock ‘n’ roll drama,” as she calls it.
Whatever it is, it’s thought to be the most expensive thing in Broadway history.
Cumming was spotted last week at a production meeting, checking out Eiko Ishioka’s imaginative costume designs.
“Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark” opens on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at Broadway’s Hilton Theatre, 213 West 42nd Street. Preview performances begin Saturday, January 16, 2010. U2’s Bono and The Edge are creating new music and lyrics for the show

I’m still dumbfounded that there’s a Spider-Man musical. I don’t know if it’s awesome or pathetic, or maybe awesomely pathetic?
But Alan Cumming is great, so there’s that.
