Xbox 360 to slip from silver to bronze by 2015? |

Michael Pachter, an analyst for Wedbush Morgan, spoke to Edge magazine about his predictions for the console market and he believes that Xbox 360’s market share will drop by 2015 leaving them in third place, and he blames the console’s lack of penetration in Japan.
Pachter stated the obvious initially by revealing that, “We expect the dominant console at the end of the this cycle to be the Wii,” but he still believes it’s only a matter of time until Nintendo release a Wii capable of high definition. He thinks Sony will gain significant ground largely due to Blu-ray’s success over HD-DVD which will see them leap frog Microsoft’s machine but according to Pachter’s estimates that won’t happen for another two years.

An interesting prognostication. While it is certainly possible, the PS3 will need to massively outsell the 360 to accomplish this feat. In order to overcome the 8.5 million unit lead of the 360 over a 2 year period, Sony must sell over an average of 350,000 units more units than microsoft per month. Since monthly sales are well below this number for any of the current console, this becomes an all the more dubious affair.
