Battlefield Heroes attracts a million
BY Dan Chant Jul. 14th, 2009 More on:

Despite only being released a short time ago, EA and DICE’s Battlefield Heroes has hit a rather impressive milestone. The free to play, pay to upgrade title quietly emerged via open beta a month or so ago but the free carrot has definitely snared the donkey. A million players have signed up for mass destruction and hit the servers with everything they have; no small feat given the short time since the title’s release.

Whether the mob consists of genuine players or gamers tempted by the free aspect remains to be seen but perhaps EA might start the realize the benefits of the new business model.

It’s a neat idea. Too bad “free” means you’ll be playing with your assortment of tools, and the optional payment gives them that extra douchey edge.
