Well here is an absolutely fantastic bit of information. EA is stepping up and hosting a panel on homophobia and virtual communities for the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD). The even will feature game developers and activists discussing the subject of homophobia in gaming and is open to the public. The discussion at the panel, which will take place Saturday, July 18, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Electronic Arts’ Redwood Offices, will focus on “the state of the problem in these communities, policy solutions that have been developed to address homophobia – what’s working as well as what’s not, plus challenges and opportunities.”
For anyone who has ever played a videogame online it is relentlessly clear that many people are immensely homophobic, and can be even more offensive then they think they are being. We at TVGB can only applaud EA for hosting this event as it is clearly necessary to discuss the subject. If nothing else, it will be an amazingly interesting discussion panel. If you’re interested in attending head over to the official page for more information.

I love how the soul deprived EA is heading this up, and that they think they can fix anything without taking away people’s rights or completely banning customers.

Ah, the self-righteous progressive political cause of the moment. I so enjoy the politicization of my gaming experience. Its exactly why people game, to immerse themselves even more into the political fray and not for an opportunity to escape it all.
But since we have already gone there, I will comment. However, before I do, let me know when is the conference on discrimination against noobs? I mean, after all, homosexuals make up only something like 4% of the general population and at least 30% of people playing any particular game online at any given time is a noob. Or, more seriously, what about women, which comprise roughly 50% of the population and are much more often a subject of hostilities?
But really, while I certainly deplore ribald language and crass gestures, I’ve always seen the neologism “homophobic” as rather inane. Literally, it means an intense and irrational fear of homosexuals. However, most people who object to the normalization of homosexuality in society do not do so based on some irrational fear, but because they have religious/moral objections. How about some of that legendary leftist “tolerance” for those of us which do not share your ideological predilections by reframing from political endorsements? Or is all of that tolerance already spent on people who have sexual predilections different than your own?

i share some of the same issues with JMA… my beliefs and my sexual preference should have nothing to do with it… my friends of a differant sexual preference to mine share the same distaste towards things like this as people are just using it as an example to cruisaide…
GLAAD should be banned as they have become nothing more then what they where established for, all they are about is hatred and discrimination.
