Dante’s Inferno gets the comic and animation treatment

EA and DC Comics have announced the combination of their powers to expand the Dante’s Inferno story to a broader audience using the time honored tradition of comic books and animation. The comic book miniseries will debut at this year’s Comic-Con International in San Diego, CA which runs from July 23 – 26. Also shown at the convention will be a screening for the world premier trailer for the Dante’s Inferno animated feature, scheduled to be released simultaneously alongside the videogame.

The collector in us wants to be at Comic-Con, if for no other reason than to snag as many of the ‘Issue 0’ editions of the comic as we can. For those headed to San Diego to revel in everything ink and paper, stop by the EA booth at #5213 and the DC Comics booth at #1915 to grab us a couple copies of the preview edition because we are going to need one to read and one to keep in the wrapper.

The comic, a six-issue miniseries, is being illustrated by Diego Latorre of The Incredible Hulk fame and written by Christos Gage, a veteran of X-Men/Spider-Man and Wildcats. Taking a cue from the videogame, the Dante’s Inferno comic intends to focus on the frantic action which surrounds the players journey through the nine circles of hell in which, in order to free the soul of Beatrice, Dante’s unrequited love. The comic will also add depth to the game, providing more perspective on Beatrice’s experience and exploring more of the poem’s depiction of the underworld.

Look for the comic in stores this December and wave when you see us at the comic shop, we will be there awhile.
