The New Xbox Experience is about to get newer. Microsoft have confirmed that the latest Xbox 360 dashboard update hits on Aug. 11, bringing a whole bunch of juicy new features with it.
Perhaps the most interesting of these is the snappily-titled Xbox Live Games on Demand Service, offering full retail games (complete with Achievements) for download. The picks of the announced bunch are BioShock, Mass Effect, Assassin’s Creed and LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga.
On top of that, the Avatar Marketplace launches, bringing free items, add-ons, outfits you can win and useless virtual crap you have to pay for. In North America, Netflix Party Support arrives, allowing multiple friends to watch streaming movies together.
All that social networking stuff announced at E3 is coming on the 11th too. Xbox 360 integration with Twitter, Facebook and Last.fm are all part of the update, along with the ability to stream 1080p movies (unless your connection sucks, of course). Pretty damn good for a free update, we say.
Of course, if Aug. 11 is just too far away for you, there is still time to sign up for the preview. And for those that already have; Major Nelson promises that the selected participants will be informed later in the week.
