More spy action from Alpha Protocol

We’ve seen quite a bit from Obsidian’s upcoming Alpha Protocol, but I’m still not sure if it is going to be an immensely awesome spy RPG that takes RPGs into a realm not usually approached or simply another game that is somewhat interesting, but not all that incredible. I know they’re really pushing the conversation paths in it, but I can’t tell if it is really going to work as amazingly as they say (every conversation matters!) or simply be like many conversation tree features in previous games and not actually matter that much. It’s one of those things that we won’t know until we see the full build of the game.

Take this new video for instance. Everything in it sounds incredible and deep, but it also sounds so intricate that it could fall on its face very easily if the game doesn’t shine. The idea that your interactions with gun dealers affects the cost of your level ups is awesome, but if the conversation trees are too generic or too easily decipherable it isn’t going to be much fun. I am cautiously optimistic, despite some crummy looking hand-to-hand in the vid, about the game though, as it looks to be tackling a difficult mission. Let’s just hope it turns out to be a mission accomplished (and not in the President Bush way).
