Halo film would-be-director would not go back there if the project revives

In a small-but-reasonable dash of drama to top the loss of a Halo movie (for now), Neil Blomkamp, the dude who would have been director, spoke out at Comic-Con saying that all the troubles surrounding it pretty much killed his buzz and that he wouldn’t come back to it if they asked him.

“I probably wouldn’t do [the] Halo [movie] if it was offered to me… Creatively, I would like to do it. It’s kind of like I’d be sad to not work on it, but I would still say no. I worked on it for five months…I put a lot of sort of sweat and blood into Halo. Creatively, it’s very compelling. I love it. But, when you work that long on something and you have it bottom out and collapse…”

Blomkamp’s contribution to Halo isn’t completely gone from the world, though. Microsoft did commission him to make a series of live action shorts to help hype up Halo 3’s release. But as far as the feature length… looks like he’s out.

He goes on to say that he did wind up doing District 9 as a result, which was also produced by Peter Jackson, and he’s “probably better off” for it. The trailer does look pretty cool, so I hope I agree when I see it. Those short films he did are also pretty cool, though. Guess we’ll never really know for sure, but if nothing else the Halo film would’ve been interesting in his hands.
