Who could publish Bungie’s non-Halo title? |

There’s been some increasing talk about Bungie’s next, non-Halo title recently. So far we know they’ve been working on it for at least a year, that it’s not necessarily tied to a specific platform and that they’re getting close to reaching a publishing agreement. What we don’t know is who that publisher could be, meaning it’s just the right time for some speculation.
On his personal blog, Bethesda’s production director Ashley Cheng has speculated that there aren’t really that many possible choices out there. “You can count on one hand the number of publisher’s around who can afford to publish Bungie’s next game: EA (via EA Partners), Activision, Ubisoft, Microsoft, and of course, Bethesda,” Cheng writes, adding, “I can only imagine how much it will cost to snag their next title.”
But, there is another. One that would make a few heads explode here and there. “There is one more publisher who could get into the game: Sony. That would be interesting. Unlikely.” But you never know.

I think the bigger question is are Bungie a one hype wonder ?
Without the Halo franchise and 100’s of millions of dollars Microsoft has poured into it over the years in marketing can Bungie succeed on their own ?
Before Halo Bungie had a solid but unremarkable track record in PC gaming and now they are known to most just for Halo alone and making shooters. Without the Halo brand name a Bungie game is far from a sure fire mega hit.

I think that the reason Microsoft chose Bungie to make its mega block buster is because Bungie has the potential to do it. They wouldn’t choose a bad developing team to make such a big and important game. Now that the world has seen how good of a game Bungie can make, Bungie doesn’t need Microsoft anymore. If they needed Microsoft in the past thats another story but now they don’t. And I am personally happy for them and for me. I mean working on the same project for 10 years could get frustrating. And now they can make new and maybe even better ips. As for halo, its not dead. And their not even close! Bungie still has 2 games left and even when halo reach is released, Microsoft can pick up another developer and keep the series alive and going.

All true, except that Microsoft didn’t choose Bungie to make Halo. Bungie was making Halo for Apple originally.
