Hacked-off fans petition Activision
BY Chris Barraclough Aug. 9th, 2009 More on:

Activision has angered its fanbase and gamers everywhere with its recent comments about game pricing. Not only does it want to release Modern Warfare 2 at a higher RRP than standard, but Activision CEO Robert Kotick stated: “You know if it was left to me, I would raise the prices even further.”

The comment was made jokingly but regardless, the fans are fighting back, with a petition that states they will not buy Modern Warfare 2 full-price. At the time of writing there were only ~800 signatures, but the number could shoot up as word spreads. Whether Activision will actually take any notice is another question, as Modern Warfare 2 sales are likely to be record-breaking regardless.

(..) that states they will not buy Modern Warfare 2 full-price. (..)
Then don’t buy it, who said you HAVE to buy a game when it comes out at a maximum price ? just wait few month, and the game as new will be half the price… INCREDIBLE, like it’s something never seen before.

A few months? Like 2 years after COD 4 came out, it was still $60. I don’t think people will wait that long.

i think they can get away with it with the CoD franchise…. but i doubt other titles by other companies could get away with trying to peddle there game at such a price, without a nasty sales drop

As much as I detest Activision they know there customer base has the attention span of a goldfish and will have completely forgotten about how bad Activision are when they ship the next title they have hyped to death.

There are two kinds of core gamers those who will buy any old trash as long as it gets a moderate score and is heavily hyped and marketed (hence celebrity ties ins by Activision) & those who care about the industry and good games (not Activisions normal customer).

Kotick will continue to push for more money to fleece out of those core gamers who buy his product and the hardcore no matter how much they shout will not change that.

I think a part of the “problem” are gamers themselves too. Without the level of hype gamers themselves have put behind this title, the price wouldn’t have budged even a cent.

Oh and this is for people to find a way to take revenue from Activision for acting ridiculous!! PC hikes, UK hikes, all their other games now being $150 (tony hawk, dj hero and guitar hero) and this guy with his smug comments! If your not buying MW2 sign it anyways against activision, if you are, sign it and try to buy it used. Let’s find a way to show them that we’re the ones who matter

Dam Activision CEO bastard. I’m a fool for video games and if the dam game cost $100 then dam it I am going to pay $100. This is also kinda funny because people think that sony is the one ripping you off.
