Spielberg in talks to be producing Halo movie |

Yeah, the man that recently had a hand in producing the cinematic gold that is Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, has, supposedly, been “blown away” by a spec script by Stuart Beattie based on the novel The Fall of Reach. In case you’re curious, Beattie also has his hands on some cinematic gold this summer to the tune of G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. To be fair, though, he also wrote the script to Collateral, and that movie was all kinds of good.
With all the other drama around this movie, it’s interesting to see big names come and go for it. Clearly, there’s some kind of turmoil surrounding the making of this game, where either Microsoft/Bungie are being incredibly difficult, or Hollywood is, or both of them are and it’s a clash of mass media titans that causes big names to throw their hands in the air and say, in so many words, “f*ck this!” Granted, Neil Blomkamp isn’t huge, but he’s so far pretty reputable, so whatever my example still stands.
Bottom line: Good luck, Steve. May this be the game adaptation that avoids the word “sucks.”

Ugh I call baloney on this one, especially the talk that is oh so common that “in talks” means a deal is done - its not. Spielberg could have glanced at it or is just a producer credit like many other films he’s worked on and I’m guessing mr beattie leaked the news to try and further his career.
Also the Halo story is the most cliched ridden universe that boils down to USA space marines (shamefully stolen from James Camerons Aliens) fight a bunch of religious aliens and a borg like entity in the flood - super original right!!
I could see something like a cheap Stargate SG1 style TV show based around Halo but a big screen movie will be super flop not to mention Camerons sci-fi Avatar is already inbound, not to mention that Spielberg’s projects are jam packed for the foreseeable future working on Tintin and Lincoln movies among others.

That all depends on your definition of flop. It would make millions upon millions of dollars. Guaranteed. Quality of the film? That’s a whole other story.
The truth of the news is debatable, that’s why I qualified it with a “supposedly.” All the same, I wouldn’t be surprised if he backed it. It’s, again, a lot of guaranteed money. He did it for two absolutely terrible Michael Bay movies recently, and is probably in for a third, so he’s not above doing it for the money. Plus he’s producing quite a few things while concurrently directing his own. I don’t see why that would be an obstacle.
