Xbox Live downtime tomorrow
BY Rain Anderson Aug. 10th, 2009 More on:

The much discussed summer NXE update will go live tomorrow and as a result Xbox Live will be down for a while. For how long must we go multiplayerless we don’t know, but once it’s back up it will have goodies like Games on Demand, Avatar Marketplace, game ratings, and a bunch of other updates and improvements too numerous to mention.

Notable new features absent from this update are the additions of Facebook, Twitter, Zune video and 1080p Instant On, and Last.fm. These will make their debuts at a later date.

if you have Netflix, the “search” feature isn’t fully fleshed out. meaning you’ll only be able to search for whatever they’ve decided should be up there for browsing. in other words, it’s pretty half-assed.

we now have the ability to “rate” games on a 5-star scale which contribute to it’s overall score. so far i’ve only been able to rate games installed on the HDD and every downloadable content on Live whether you’ve purchased it or not (DLC, trailers, demo’s, videos, everything).

we can finally eject discs from the dashboard by pressing “x”

the avatar “marketplace” was up and running perfectly day one (of course) and is exactly what we’ve come to expect from MS…a complete rip-off.

meanwhile the “awards” section for earning stuff through acheivements remains, naturally, devoid of anything. (perhaps it unlocks after we’ve spent money in the marketplace…i wouldn’t put it past them)
