It’s a new week and it appears that another developer finds itself in the cross hairs of financial ruin. Bionic Commando developer GRIN has seen massive layoffs recently and the company is currently struggling to stay alive. The speculation as to why is because of the poor sales and poor critical reception of Bionic Commando, Terminator Salvation and Wanted: Weapons of Fate. Lesson to be learned here: don’t make game-based on movies.
According to a report translated from Swedish the company has already closed its Barcelona and Gothenburg locations. There also may be bad news for the main office in Stockholm as employees have been told not to show up for work. What shocks us most about this development is the fact that the company that produced the Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter games could fall so hard so quickly. It’s a shame to see a developer who we know can be successful fall victim to the fickle game markets after a couple of bad games. Though it only takes one. Hopefully the company regroups and gets back on its feet otherwise we’ll lose another solid development house.
