Bethesda clarifies reports on The Elder Scrolls 5
BY Sebastian Nordlund Aug. 18th, 2009 More on:

During his QuakeCon speech, Todd Howard, executive director at Bethesda, said there are no current plans for an Elder Scrolls 5. Apparently there was enough confusion about the matter with some people taking it as “no Elder Scrolls 5, ever,” that Pete Hines, VP of PR and Marketing at Bethesda has had to step in with a blog post on the Bethesda Blog to clarify a few things.

What was actually said by Howard was that we shouldn’t expect a new Elder Scrolls game “in the near future,” that last part being the key of that sentence. Hines also brings attention to the fact that both he and Howard have said in the past that another Elder Scrolls game is a given, “The last one was enormously popular. So was the one before that. You get the idea. So do we.”

Regarding an Elder Scrolls MMO however, Hines goes on to write that neither Howard nor Bethesda Game Studios make MMOs. That’s the job of ZeniMax Online Studios who are currently working on an MMO but which Hines wouldn’t doesn’t any information about. “When ZeniMax Online is ready to show what they are up to, we’ll let everyone know. Until then we aren’t going to provide hints or speculate on what they’re doing either.

So to sum up — there will be another Elder Scrolls game, and possibly an Elder Scrolls MMO as well. We just don’t know when.

I suspect The Elder Scrolls V will be released sooner than we expect. Maybe 2012……………..or that may be wishful thinking, in any case this game has the potential to be one of the greatest games of all time!!

If it wasn’t for the economy, ES5 would likely be on shelves right now.
