Upon first glance of this new trailer for Heavy Rain, Quantic Dream’s interactive murder mystery, one could be forgiven for mistaking it as a family friendly title as we find ourselves caught up in the life of architect Ethan Marr. Ethan, one of the four playable characters in the game is married with two sons, and couldn’t be happier it seems. Just when you’ve settled in with the idea of him being a family man though, everything changes, and you start to understand that Heavy Rain is going to be a very sad and very dark game. Sorry kids.
Several themes flash at you as clips from the game play out — love, guilt, and redemption all roll into what makes for a dramatic taster. We’re once again asked at the end “How far will you go to save someone you love?,” and Ethan’s story looks like it’s the most relevant to this question so far.
During Sony’s GamesCom conference, the fourth and final character was revealed to be a private detective named Scott Shelby who’s investigating the Origami Killer case. But I guess we’ll be introduced to him more thoroughly at a later date.
There’s still a while to go before Heavy Rain hits our PS3s with everything it’s got, but it definitely looks like its going to be worth the wait.
