PS3 Firmware updating to v3.00, Director of PSN Ops gives a tour

Lots of interesting news on the Sony front today at GamesCom. Also included in all the hubbub is the PlayStation 3 firmware update to v3.00.

Coming from the PlayStation Blog, Eric Lempel, Director of PlayStation Network Operations, gives us all a few minutes to show off the update. Some general aesthetic improvements for a number of features including the XMB in order make navigating everything, specifically the PlayStation Store, a bit easier. They’ve changed the ‘Information Board’ to ‘What’s New?’, where we can find the latest updates and news from the PSN. There’s a new status indicator, to show online friends, messages, and controller battery life a little more conveniently. Furthermore, your own customization will be expanding with new themes and avatars, in addition to a new trophy display that allows users to arrange their trophies how they wish.
