DiRT 2 trailer is short and dirty
BY Raphael Cua Aug. 20th, 2009 More on:

Just the way I like it. No dramatic voice-over, no orchestral opus, no extraneous fluff. This Colin McRae: DiRT 2 trailer cuts right to the chase with cars driving recklessly around on a dirt track at unsafe speeds. But for all its lack in overly dramatic flair, this trailer shows off some really nice visuals. She may be short and dirty, but she looks damn good.

But don’t think Codemasters is being frugal with their rally racing franchise. They’ve released the DiRT 2 demo on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 today, which in addition to single-player events also includes a taste of 8-person multiplayer. So take her out for a spin. See how dirty she really can get.

The demo once again shows Codemasters cannot let go of their awful vehicle physics. Touch the handbrake for more than 0.01 seconds? Spin round 180 degrees. Touch a barrier? Spin round 180 degrees. Rear-end another car? Spin round 180 degrees. Hit a puddle 1 degree off head-on? Spin round 180 degrees.

The dirt track car handles like a canal boat and the rally car is so twitchy and oversteery it just isn’t funny.

      Lousy.

I gotta agree with those comments. Didn’t like te vehicles handled at all. The first Dirt I liked, but here the steering is just way too touchy and messed up.

I just gave the Dirt demo a spin. Quite literally. It’s like driving on a course made of butter. Not a big fan.
