Videogames to receive their own National Archives

While the jury may be out on videogames achieving respectability in the United States, the UK government believes that they have reached that point, and is willing to dedicate National Archives to the medium.

Iain Simmons and James Newman are part of the National Video Games Archive project that is obtaining funding from the government’s Department of Media, Culture and Sport. In their interview, they expressed interest in expressing the “bigger picture” about games, talking about the role that they have in society, rather than just the games themselves.

I look forward to this project seeing completion, and I would love for something like this to come to the U.S. After all, considering the pervading influence that games have in our society, it should be a no-brainer that they receive archival privileges.
