“I guarantee that this game couldn’t be working on Xbox 360. It would be impossible. I’m 100 percent sure of this,” said Christophe Balestra, co-president of Naughty Dog, while speaking to Ars Technica about their upcoming Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. “First of all, we fill the Blu-ray 100 percent, we have no room left on this one. We have 25GB of data; we’re using every single bit of it.” Glad we got that cleared up..
The rest of the interview is interesting as well; Naughty Dog, a wholly owned Sony company, talks in detail about the benefits and responsibilities of being a first-party developer. For instance, they work with third parties and distribute their code to pass on how they effectively deal with specific components on the PS3 and bring out their utmost potential.
So Naughty Dog does a lot of heavy lifting over at Sony, making the console purr and keeping everyone else up to date. On top of that their making a gorgeous follow-up to one of the best games to come out in a while. Balestra wrapped up his responsibilities nicely saying, “We’ve invested a lot of time maximizing the power of the machine… That’s our job, to make the PS3 shine.”
PS3 owners can see how well all their hard work paid off when Uncharted 2 releases October 13.
