Nintendo downloads for the week of Aug. 31
BY Chad George Aug. 31st, 2009 More on:

Oh wow, talk about being late to the party. We should have had this week’s Nintendo downloadables posted for all to see earlier today, but the regular guy called in sick - so you get me. Not so bad really, especially since those looking for some virtual love from Nintendo will not be disappointed. Even the old school fans will be excited to see Phantasy Star (1 player, 500 Wii Points) hitting the Virtual Console. Now, do not get all excited for a remake already, this version is the original gangsta of RPGs straight off the Sega Master System, but is still a classic that should be played by any gamer worth their salt.

Over on WiiWare, we have two choices this week. Tales of Monkey Island: Chapter 2 (1 player, 1000 Wii points) is now available for those looking to continue their swashbuckling lessons from Guybrush. It is full of wife finding, Mer-People defending, and pox plagued pirate fighting. The other release is something called 3-2-1, Rattle Battle! (1 player, 500 Wii Points) which is a collection of mini-games that anyone can pick up and play. Rattle Battle, oddly enough, is listed as a “party game,” yet only supports one player. Go figure that one out.

Finally, over on DSiWare, Puzzle League Express (1 player, 500 DSi Points) makes the popular Puzzle League easier to enjoy on the go. It is essentially the same game, connect blocks of similar colors to eliminate them before the stack gets too high. If you’re like me and have no friends, the downloadable version is just right as it contains the original game’s four single-player modes with the benefit of not having to carry around a cartridge.
