Even though it was the top selling game in the month of August in North America according to the newly released NPD data, the sales of Madden NFL 10 thus far have made EA CEO John Riccitiello a little bit sad. In a message sent out to EA employees that was obtained by The Wall Street Journal, Riccitiello calls Madden‘s August sales “discouraging.”
“This week, market research for August will show that year over year, the industry was down in North America – and that August sales of Madden NFL 10 are down with that trend. It is discouraging that one of our highest-rated and best-marketed Madden titles in years is facing strong headwinds,” he wrote, but remains hopeful that, thanks to both Sony’s and Microsoft’s recent $100 price cuts, the game’s sales trend “will strengthen as more consumers go to retail to pick up their lower-priced consoles.”
According to NPD, Madden NFL 10 sold 1,795,982 copies in August across the 360, PS3, PS3, Wii and PSP.
