First footage released for Super Meat Boy
BY Lee Bradley Sep. 16th, 2009 More on:

Since Super Meat Boy was announced at the start of the year, the WiiWare and PC remake of Flash platformer Meat Boy has gone pretty quiet. But behind the scenes, Edmund McMillen, Team Meat and our very own Jordan Fehr (who’s doing some of the audio work) have been hard at work. Today, at a Nintendo Europe WiiWare and DSiWare media summit in London, they released the first footage.

Along with some gameplay (above) showing off Meat Boy’s faltering attempts to negotiate some nasty looking buzzsaws, there’s also a vid of the game’s level editor to feast your eyes on (after the jump). Say nice stuff about the sound. Jordan’s our hero.

The finished product will feature 150+ stages, co-operative play and versus modes along with the aforementioned level editor. And if that isn’t enough to get your mouth watering, the downloadable title promises cameo appearances from more than 20 indie game stars including Braid’s Tim and the little yellow Alien Hominid fella.

For those unaware of Super Meat Boy, or its predecessor, you should know that it follows the antics of an anthropomorphic lump of red meat desperately trying to rescue his love, Band-Aid Girl, from the evil Dr. Fetus. Obviously. You can play the original flash game here.

Super Meat Boy is scheduled for a Q1 2010 release.

N+ was certainly not the first platformer with a wall-jump.
