One of the greatest snowboard game franchises (out of all, like, three of them) is SSX, but the series pretty much died out after SSX Blur on the Wii and EA has called the franchise dead for the time being. However, like a supervillain in a comic book, nothing can actually die in the world of videogames. While speaking with GamesIndustry.biz, EA Montreal’s Alain Tascan said that the company loves the series and would be very interested in one day reviving it.
“Ah, SSX,” Tascan sighed wistfully. “We have a big catalogue and we were talking about what people like. I think this is something we will look at in the future to see if it makes sense to revive the franchise. It’s a little bit early to talk about it, but I feel… I know internally it is a franchise that people love because it was successful and good, and it reminds me of when we were young, and I feel if the market is there and is ready for a new one then we’ll consider it.”
Oh for the days of youth. If only all games were made because they reminded the dev of when they were young. Hmmm, maybe that wouldn’t be the best thing. However, in this case it sounds like very good news. I’d love for EA to take another shot at the Wii controls. SSX Blur might have had one hell of a learning curve, but once you got it down it was pretty slick. Those controls combined with a balance board and Wii Motion Plus and you’ve got me buying a game day one.
