While David Braben is aware that expectations are huge for Elite IV, the series’ creator won’t be releasing the game until it’s just right.
Not content just to shove a – no doubt money spinning – iterative sequel out the door, Braben won’t be releasing the game until he’s convinced that it not only looks right, but is able to differentiate itself too. Hence the 11 years and counting development time.
Speaking to GI.biz at BAFTA’s ‘A Life in Videogames’ event, Braben accepted the popularity of the 25 year-old series, saying “it would be mad for us not to work on it.” However, he went on to say that there’s no chance of the game hitting shelves until he knows it’s “going to be a different type of experience”.
Just don’t say “vaporware.”
