Since its announcement at E3, Microsoft’s Project Natal has had the gaming world wondering just what it can do or where it will take us. Thus, a whole bunch of us journalists ask the same thing to developers when given the chance: What the heck are you gonna do with it? The answers do vary, but Sony also announced their humbler piece of motion tech with the motion controller (I’m assuming a cooler name is on the way like… Dual Shock Motion… or something…), which hasn’t gotten much press attention from the devs until now.
Jun Takeuchi, the producer of the Resident Evil series was first asked the ubiquitous Natal question, to which he answers that their Osaka offices will probably cook up something cool, but a lot of Japanese devs are looking at it rather ambivalently. The PS3 motion controller, though, has him interested…
“Well just being from Capcom, I can tell you that we have a lot of good ideas on how to make use of that technology and we’re looking forward to putting them into practice. However, speaking to other developers in Japan, I’ve heard a few of them say they were delighted by the Sony motion controller because they can just port over their Wii titles to the PS3.”
Funny… it totally makes sense but the thought never crossed my mind. Of course they’d port motion-controlled games! So that’s cool. However, I’m more excited about that “lot of good ideas” that Takeuchi’s looking forward to. Seems in general, there’s a lot of forward-looking to be going on. Hope it all pays off big.
