To date, Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy XII sold 6.6 million and 5.2 million copies, respectively. Square Enix is hoping for similar success with its next entry in the role-playing series, the endlessly delayed and ingeniously titled Final Fantasy XIII. Square Enix is hoping to once again break the 6 million unit sales mark with the new game. Citing the company’s most recent hit, the 5 million copy selling Dragon Quest IX, Square Enix executive Yoichi Wada stated, “I think we will be able to do that this year.”
I guess we’ll start seeing how his hopes pan out once the game’s released in Japan on December 17.
