You won’t have to wait for the upcoming film adaptation of Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune to see Nathan Drake on the silver screen, as Sony and Naughty Dog have partnered to bring Uncharted 2: Among Thieves to god’s pocket television.
Lucky gamers will get to play Uncharted 2: Among Thieves in hulking high resolution at four of the 500 theaters nationwide equipped with Sony’s 4K digital cinema technology, in Bellevue, WA, Rosemont, IL, Thousand Oaks, CA and San Francisco, CA, on October 5 and 6. The first night is invite only, but the second will be open to the public, with Sony representatives and Naughty Dog developers around to answer questions, like why Nathan seems to have blocked my number. I couldn’t believe he was listed, and lives in Florida!
But back to Uncharted‘s big screen debut, Sony hopes to “build this into a standard element in the movie-going experience,” according to Mike Fidler, senior VP of Sony’s digital cinema solutions. Personally I call bullshit, predicting that this will rank just below “place to hold your next corporate business meeting” in terms of never used movie theater services. That is, unless they can get that 500 player co-op up to speed.
