Borderlands will be “less boring” than Fallout 3
BY Kristen Spencer Oct. 7th, 2009 More on:

In a conversation with Official Xbox Magazine, Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford claimed wandering the blighted  wastelands of Borderlands will be “less boring” than Fallout 3. Commenting on Borderlands’ decidedly action-oriented focus, Pitchford took a dig at Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic shooter, whose critical acclaim does not extend to the less than stellar real-time combat.

“I understand why we do those games [like Fallout 3] but I don’t know - do we want that? I think that game could have been much better if it didn’t have a single dialogue tree,” he said. “Honestly. And if it was more action-orientated, and if the shooting was better.”

If Borderlands doesn’t live up to all this tough-talking bravado, I don’t think Pitchford will survive the critical hit to his ego.

That guy’s a real douche bag, first he goes after Valve, then Fallout? Jeez. That guy would be lucky if Borderlands sold half as well as Fallout 3. What a jackass.

I wouldn’t call it “going after” anyone, he’s just making points. And they ARE valid actually. The storytelling in both Oblivion and Fallout 3 could’ve been done in a much better way, the in your face discussions in those games were just boring to go through which isn’t saying the story was bad of course, but the presentation was.

And Steam too HAS to be separate from a game developer, it’s just too easy to cross the line there. Same goes for Stardock. Their game selling services and game development itself should be split into different interests.

I agree with him, I found Fallout to be incredibly tedious and the combat was simply amateurish in it’s implementation. Having said that I am not blown away by what I have seen of Borderlands so far, I love the graphics style but the combat does not look that satisfying to me.

He’s not “going after” anyone. He’s merely pointing out some stuff that, all-in-all, is true and fair. But Mr. Pitchford can also be quite the bshitter every once in a while.

this guy is IDIOT… don’t you DARE RUIN the FALLOUT universe with some pathetic action game!!!.

Fallout 3 was supposed to be a sequel to a very succesful Post Apocalyptic Role Playing Game(RPG), not just a shooter/action game. Even as the way as F3 is now, it lacks good character develpment, and a few RPG elements… but it is quite good i must admit. If there wouldn’t be any dialogue and story, and karma system….etc… i wouldnt play Fallout 3. (together with character building theese are crucial RPG elements).

So this borderland wanna make a post-apo game just because F3 had a success? SHAME on them, they dont wanna make a good game, they just want profit. And if the game will be a shooter only, then it will be VERY-VERY BORING compared to Fallout 3(which is i think fun to play).

I loved fallout but the guy has a point fallout 3 wasn’t a particularly in your face action game. Hopefully Borderlands will crazy explody action version of fallout +coop.

Considering the game comes out this week i doubt they made it because of Fallout 3’s success …
