Prince of Persia creator Jordan Mechner has a new game-relatedĀ trademarkĀ application in for the name Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands. It is unclear what, if anything the name would be used for, whether it be a new title all together, or a license title for the upcoming Prince of Persia film. Either way, so long as Mechner is the one filing the trademark I feel safe in his hands. His artistic vision for Prince of Persia, which has helped it to move into a Zelda-like archetypal story of good versus evil (with just the details changed each time) has been a good one. Prince of Persia: Sands of Time of course was one of the most successful re-imaginings in games history so don’t count the prince out even if you didn’t care of the most recent entry. As for the film… well even with Mechner involved I can’t say I have the highest hopes for Hollywood anymore, but maybe I will be surprised in the end.

Sounds like more Sands of Time-type stuff, in which case I’m with Mr. Razak. Yes!
