PS3 cross game voice chat unintentionally confirmed
BY Brian Dahlquist Oct. 15th, 2009 More on:

Sitting around waiting for the latest firmware update to download…and reset the system…and install…feels like an eternity every time, but at least this update may provide a useful addition. Cross game voice chat has been unintentionally confirmed to be included in the next firmware update by a Naughty Dog employee on the PlayStation.com forums. The post was made by a member named ReklissAbandon in a topic about how players can still spectate other players after they have died in multiplayer in the recently released Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

“I think they wanted people to have fun and ejoy [sic] the show since all dead players can talk to each other no matter what team you are on. But I will suggest it anyway. Not to mention that the next PS3 firmware update is going to allow cross game chat. So if players use that instead of in game communication then they would also be able to communicate enemies positions.”

The post was promptly deleted, but news on the internet spreads faster than that pig virus people keep talking about. Considering private cross game chat has been available for the 360 since it launched, Sony is a little late to the party. Then again, Sony’s online service is completely free, so I can put my $50 a year towards Nintendo DS games to play during the next PS3 firmware update download.
