New trailer for Painkiller: Ressurection looks a lot like Painkiller

There must be some incredibly loyal fan base somewhere in eastern Europe for Painkiller, because Austrian developer Homegrown Games is making another entry in the series, and they’ve released a trailer to get you ready for some carnage. As someone who played Painkiller when it first came out in 2004, believe me when I say that Painkiller: Ressurection doesn’t seem to be reinventing the wheel all that much, if at all. The original game involved the player running around a death metal album cover with death metal blaring through your speakers killing everything that moves, and it looks like the new game does just that, but with the same weapons, enemies, and graphics. The game is running on a new version of the PAIN engine that powered the first three games, but it doesn’t seem to look all that different.

Don’t get me wrong, Painkiller was a total blast when I first played it, but after three games with the same gameplay and art assets and more then five years later, I don’t think I’ll be lining up at midnight to pick up a copy. However, if you have never played a Painkiller game, considering this will be the most technically proficient game in the series, this could be a great game to check out if you’re into good, mindless fun.
