Dead Space Extraction sales are not good
BY Denis Evangelista Oct. 19th, 2009 More on:

Confirming what we already expected, a NeoGAF user believed to be Louis Gascoigne, a programmer at Visceral Games, has said that “nobody bought” Dead Space: Extraction, likely meaning the game has not met sales expectations. In addition, he reiterated that the game was a test of the Wii audience, and that Extraction’s sales will affect the company’s future projects on the Wii.

But, although we remained hopeful until the end, we thought as much. It’s a shame really, for the game is high quality and made for an enjoyable outing for me and my friends who are Dead Space fans.

This is truly disappointing. I played about half way through on a borrowed from the internet copy and was impressed. Wasn’t a day one buy, but, definitely in the collection now. I wonder if they have realized what Sega did. “Hardcore” wii games are a slow burn on the sales end, they do eventually turn a profit though. Just not usually in the opening month.

Developers don’t realize that wii sales start slow!(Not for every game though…)
It will sell but later down the line like most of the hardcore wii titles.Developers should know that its really easy too burn/Download Nintendo wii games, the pirates are really hurting the hardcore crowd right now…

Uh, no Wii is for serious gamers as well but who the hell wants to by an Arcade Shooter that isn’t named Resident Evil or House of the Dead? I’m sorry but in order for people to buy games you can’t just pay $50 for it and beat it once and have a 2% replay value. The game is good, I rented it, and I wont buy it unless its around $20 because that’s it’s worth to me if that. Also they are retarded if they think they will sell a lot now as everyone in there right mind is saving up for the holiday season since jobs are scarce to come by. People wont spend money all willy nilly.

They need to wait, the Wii sales of harcore games are slow. But at the end sell well, belive me EA.

Take for example HOD: Overkill, Mad World and The Conduit. These games start with low sales but picked up later, today they made a profit for SEGA with 420,000 - 320,000 and 270,000 copies wolrdwide respectively…
I hope these games reach the million copies worldwide in the long term, the same will happen with Dead Space: Extraction and Cursed Mountain, these games begin selling even less with only 10,000 copies in the first week, but increased in the following weeks to 40,000 copies worldwide and these sales will be have a huge impact in the Holiday season. I expect by the time 150,000 or 180,000 copies for Dead Space: Extraction.
I don’t own the game, becose I can’t spend my money on games. But this game is on my list of games, I will buy the game soon, probably this Holidays.

Of course it was going to sell bad. IT’S A RAIL SHOOTER. They seemed so sure of themselves, saying it had great replayability and what-not. NOBODY WILL BUY RAIL SHOOTERS.

      @ WiiCoreGamer

Even 420,000 in relation to the millions upon millions of Wii console units out in the market, makes it a poor selling game. If this were an indie title, it would be considered a success but since it’s a AAA title, it’s definitely not.

All the games you mention point out the same glaring fact: Serious games do not appeal to Wii owners, and most serious gamers are on other platforms.

I’m not so sure about that. I’m a huge fan of Dead Space and played it on Xbox 360.
I was very happy to pre-order Dead Space Extraction for Wii… when the game arrived I popped in the disc and was strangely underwhelmed by the game.

I like the setting, the graphics are fine and the Wii controls work fine. It just didn’t click with me. After a few chapters I’m currently not motivated to finish the game. A guess a lot of other people share my experience and didn’t buy the title right away.

IMO, they should port this game to PS3 as a PSN download or cheap disc game to further the sales for those who have played the original. I know many people will buy it, I certainly would.

We all know how this will go: “Well, no one bought it, so there must be no hardcore audience on the Wii.”

Meanwhile, the reality is: There’s plenty hardcore audience for the Wii, but they ignored their fanbase and created a damn rail-shooter when we wanted nothing of the sort. People TOLD them we didn’t want a rail-shooter, and they got defensive. Now, no one bought the thing, and they blame the console instead of their own stupid decisions.

      Brilliant!
