Senator Yee honored for First Amendment efforts

Senator Leland Yee, known primarily for his efforts to limit minors’ access to violent videogames, is actually being honored for his efforts to uphold the First Amendment…though one would think that his actions prior serve as a complete counter to this distinction.

Yee is being recognized by the First Amendment Coalition for his “legislation in support of government transparency and the rights of student journalists and their advisers.” An odd award choice to be sure, especially since he believes strongly enough in limiting free access to the point that he is willing to appeal his case before the U.S. Supreme Court.

However, maybe this award will force Yee to reexamine his positions concerning videogames and the First Amendment, although it is highly doubtful that he will change his mind.
