Sony confirms Netflix for PS3
BY Rain Anderson Oct. 26th, 2009 More on:

The guesswork has turned out to be spot on; Sony has announced that Netflix will shortly be available to all nine million of its US-based PlayStation 3 owners.

It’s not going to be as easy as 1-2-3 right off the bat though. To stream movies and shows instantly, a Blu-ray disc is “initially” needed which will be made available to all Netflix member for free. “The free instant streaming disc leverages Blu-ray’s BD-Live technology to access the Internet and activate the Netflix user interface on the PS3 system, which must be online via Wi-Fi or Ethernet,” writes the press release.

The instant streaming disc can be reserved here and, once available, will be delivered one business day after the request is made.

The service will launch on the system some time in November for Netflix’s usual $8.99 a month.
