Splash Damage ‘wouldn’t survive’ only making PC games

It’s not uncommon for companies who have made their start in the world of hardcore PC gaming to wake up and smell the proverbial coffee. Crytek, id Software, Valve and others have all branched or are planning to branch out into the world of home consoles. Now it appears we can officially add Splash Damage to that growing list of developers. Their initial success as a PC mod team has lead them to this crossroads. “About two or three years ago we realized that we really wouldn’t survive if we only made PC games, since purely making PC games was incompatible with our goal of making triple-A games,” said Splash Damage head honcho Paul Wedgwood.

From our perspective if that’s what you have to do in order to be able to make awesome triple A titles, then so be it. We here at TVGB don’t really buy into the whole console war shenanigans or platform wars if you prefer to call it that. At the end of the day as long as Splash Damage makes quality games — which Brink certainly seems to be — and makes them available for the plethora of platforms that are out there, we’ll be happy.
