Mario Bros. Wii will outsell Modern Warfare 2 “on one particular platform,” Fils-Aime says
BY Rain Anderson Nov. 6th, 2009 More on:

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime is a confident fellow. A very confident fellow. Confident enough to put New Super Mario Bros. Wii up against Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare 2, aka the pre-order record setting, most anticipated game of the year and possibly the biggest entertainment launch of.. oh.. ever.

“Absolutely,” he said when asked on GTTV if Nintendo’s new multiplayer-oriented side-scroller is going to outsell Modern Warfare 2 on a single platform, meaning either on the PS3, 360 or PC. “… I do believe so.”

“… you’ve got to give me the entire holiday selling season. So let’s take it all the way through January NPD data … I’ll put that stake in the ground,” he said, later adding, “Modern Warfare [2] is a great title. As a gamer, I look forward to it … I think it’s going to be a fantastic title.”

I think it is possible…however unlikely it is, the possibility is still there. The Wii as a console proved itself by out selling the “big boys”. It is because it is a family system.Yes, Modern Warfare 2 is the most anticipated game of the season, but for what audience? Gamers will flock to it like flies to honey, but will 3rd grader Dylan sit on Santa’s lap and ask for that. If for some reason he does, which I can not imagine, will his parents buy it for him? Games like Super Mario Bros and Wii Fit are laughing matters in the minds of most Gamers, but they are perfect for families. They are appropriate, they have virtually no violence, they are simple to play, they are cute. Games like these will do very well this holiday season, because they focus on children.
