Rock Band 3 to double as musical instructor?
BY Jason Townsend-Rogers Nov. 8th, 2009 More on:

As popular as the Rock Band series is, it is not always the best avenue to go if you want to achieve mastery in a specific instrument.

However, that may soon change if Dhani Harrison has his way. The son of The Beatles’ George Harrison made it clear that not only is he working on Rock Band 3, but that he wants the instruments to be “more real so people can actually learn how to play music while playing the game. Give me a couple years, it’s going to happen.”

It’s a noble endeavor, one that I hope becomes realized. After all, it wouldn’t hurt to obtain a free guitar lesson while achieving star power.

I have much anticipation for that day to come George Harrison. I think it is a concept that makes absolute sense. You have the Army and the Medical schools using instructional games to train their staff and students. Education through the ever awesome video game is not a brand new concept. On top of that, what better way to get your children motivated. My brother is 12, he could easily spend at least an hour on Rock Band, but often gets easily distracted when practicing the guitar no matter how much he loves it. It is a strain on his already short attention span. I will throw this in on Rock Band’s behalf…Dylan (my brother) has not learned guitar from the game, but it has helped his reflexes. That does translate to the real thing because he can use his hands without looking. These games were a fantastic idea, and a treasured addition to the industry.
