Criterion confirmed as the next Need for Speed developer
BY Rain Anderson Nov. 10th, 2009 More on:

After admitting that EA has, in his own words, “failed to put adequate resources behind” the Need for Speed franchise in recent years and that “as a result, quality suffered,” EA Games Label President Frank Gibeau revealed what’s been rumored for a while now — the next game in the series is coming from Burnout Paradise (pictured) developer Criterion Games. And it’s coming in 2010.

“Next year’s Need for Speed has been under-development now for some time at our award-winning Criterion studio,” he said during the company’s recent fiscal Q2 results call.

Following the success of Need for Speed Shift, putting the franchise in yet another developer’s hand is part of the company’s plan to “revitalize” some of their core intellectual properties, including Medal of Honor.

success of SHIFT??? haaaa that game is a flop just as underground 2 mostwanted, carbon, prostreets, undercover.
keep those FLOPS rolling in EA so far 6 flops, one after another… first 7 NFS was excellent which sad to say was on ps1 and 6th an 7th one hotpursuit 2 and underground on ps2 after underground
NFS died now if criterion can make NFS exciting again even with up-grade HD graphics “the need for speed” or hotpursuit or highstakes that would be an improvment.

NFSGAMER, yes, even though it sounds like you didn’t like the new direction yourself, NFS Shift was a success on both the retail and critical fronts.

The fact that you’ve used “MISE” instead of “might as” makes me want to kill you.
