And so it begins…
According to ELSPA/GfK-ChartTrack, first day sales in the UK alone show that Infinity Ward’s critical darling Modern Warfare 2 sold through an estimated 1.23 million units, pulling in an estimated £47 million in sales — nearly doubling the numbers of the previous record holder, Grand Theft Auto IV (631,000 units, 27.2 million on launch day).
ELSPA’s Director General Michael Rawlinson takes MW2‘s sales as “astonishing and clear evidence that videogames are now mainstream in the UK,” and reminds parents to be vigilant as this is an 18-rated game.
