Torchlight MMO in two years, mod tools now available
BY Matt Brooker Nov. 13th, 2009 More on:

One of the few shortcomings of Runic Games’ action-rpg, Torchlight, is its lack of multiplayer support. Creating an MMO version of the game has always been part of the plan, but it looks we’ll be waiting a whole two years before the ability to jump online with friends becomes available.

“The MMO will be in pre-production as soon as we finalise issues from launching the single-player. It will feature a lot of customization, an overworld, random and instanced dungeons, PVP and much more,” said Runic Games CEO Max Schaefer in an interview with PC Games.

“It will be indeed free to play, and will be out in about 2 years. We like to get alpha and beta versions up and running as quickly as possible, though, so hopefully we’ll have a lot of community interaction during the development cycle.”

In other Torchlight-related news, the official Torchlight TorchED Editor is now available in download form. The editor allows players to create custom levels, quests, items, skills and more. If modding tools scare you and you’re just looking for some new content to dive into, head over to Original Runic Games Fansite for a list of the latest and greatest in player-created content.

    2. Yeah, apparently the mac port was “at the midway point” back in early september. I don’t know if that helps at all in regards to anticipating a release date.

    3. It seems a Box version will be available in store for January 5… It would be awesome to get a Mac version at the same time too :)… Even if i’m guessing it should unfortunately be later. I’ll pick it up on day one, the Steam demo is on my Windows Partition on y mac, and i’m soooo waiting (it’s hard) to get it on Mac Os (i’m lazy to reset to windows to play… :)
