In a recent interview, BioWare CEO and co-founder Dr. Ray Muzyka said that cooperative gameplay coming to future iterations in the Mass Effect and Dragon Age franchises is certainly a possibility, though yet to be considered or decided upon.
“Sure, we would consider it,” Muzyka told Videogamer. “We haven’t announced anything on that front yet, but those are interesting ideas. They could make a great gameplay experience. Whether we’ll do them or not remains to be decided.”
Considering the player has party members with them for most of the time in both games, co-op sounds like it could be a natural fit, but Muzyka does warn that depending on implementation, it may well end up detracting from the experience. “It’s hard to weave a great single-player storyline into a multiplayer experience. It’s not impossible. We’ve done it, and we’re doing it again now in Star Wars: The Old Republic. But it is challenging.”
