Ever since 2005 when Call of Duty 2 was released, Infinity Ward and Treyarch have been taking turns developing yearly sequels for the franchise, this year’s game of course being Infinity Ward’s hard-to-top Modern Warfare 2. But now a third development team is added to the mix, LA Times is reporting. Since the piece stops short of giving any further info, it’s a fitting time for some good old fashioned speculation.
A new developer could mean any number of things. It could mean that even more FPS action is on the way, though that sounds like pushing it a little, doesn’t it? We’re guessing Activision plans to expand the series into other genres — with top people from the award-winning Dead Space under their roof now, perhaps a third-person shooter would offer a new perspective? And let’s not forget that Activision has talked about a possible CoD MMO before and how the series’ future will likely see paid-for online services.
