EA Montreal moving away from Wii, focusing on “blockbuster-type” titles
BY Rain Anderson Nov. 25th, 2009 More on:

EA Montreal — the developer behind Wii titles in the Skate, Need for Speed and Spore series — is “re-focusing” its attention on “big, blockbuster-type” titles, according to General Manager Alain Tascan. Instead of putting a lot of attention on developing games for the Wii, the market for which is “a little bit unpredictable these days,” the studio will “focus on big, blockbuster-type titles,” Tascan told Edge. “It doesn’t mean that we are going to abandon the Wii, but as a studio we want to be ready for new challenges.”

A big reason behind EA ‘adjusting the direction’ of their big budget titles is apparently Army of Two (also developed at EA Montreal), which Tascan says is “the most successful original IP EA has had in the last few years.”

“[EA Montreal] is going to be very nimble and able to adapt to the market; I feel right now our label wants to focus on fewer and bigger things … I think the market is showing that if you don’t adapt fast enough then you’ll be in trouble.”
