PS3 and 360 for online gaming says Codemasters, Wii not so much

In a recent interview, Codemasters’ F1 2009 producer James Wakelam stated that online multiplayer is not a component of the Wii version of the game because such is the provenance of Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Specifically, Wakelam stated, “Had we been working on PS3 or Xbox, these online multiplayer [features] would have been a given because that is absolutely why people buy those consoles.” It’s not that Wakelam and the rest of the F1 team hate on the Wii — rather, he believes that Wii users are looking for a social experience that can involve all of the family. “So we opted for split screen multiplayer in Wii and worked hard to make sure we cater for all skill levels.”
