Undead Labs’ recently announced console-bound zombie MMO will “almost certainly” go with a subscription-based model, founder Jeff Strain says. “There are still hurdles to jump with both Sony and Microsoft,” but approaching the the companies with an ‘we’re making a console-only MMO from the ground-up’ attitude has made the process easier. Regardless, “there’s a lot of negotiation to do”.
“I’ve been talking to them for years and I think they very much want to see this,” Strain told Develop. But as both platform holders are still “feeling their way through the whole MMO business model,” he says, “there are lots of sticking points to get through. The questions will be how billing works, how the revenue is recognized and who gets what.”

I dont think the subscription will fly with the 360, we already have to pay a fee to get Xbox Live and some may think this is a bit much. The opposite might happen on the PS3 with them getting online for free and not wanting to pay for a single game. The only revenue left is from PC or micro-transactions which they seem to be ignoring.
