Battlefield, Medal of Honor want Call of Duty’s head on a platter
BY Rain Anderson Dec. 2nd, 2009 More on:

EA really wants the first-person shooter crown. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and the freshly announced reboot of the Medal of Honor series are both set for release next year, and CEO John Riccitiello has now made it perfectly clear that with these two FPS offerings EA has Activision’s annual Call of Duty franchise in its sights, “I’m not saying it’s going to happen tomorrow, but in the way that Activision sort of alternates sequels of Modern Warfare and Call of Duty and owns the leadership position in FPS, between Medal of Honor and Battlefield, I want it back.”

And they’re going to get there with “innovation and quality” in tow, he says, with some of that coming in the form of multiplayer gameplay from DICE, “The first [Bad Company] did very well in its first outing. The next one is a heck of a lot better and it looks like a worthy competitor to Modern Warfare. We think we’ve got an advantage over Modern Warfare 2 with our multiplayer. The guys at DICE do that really, really well [DICE has also been tapped to create the multiplayer of the new Medal of Honor].”

Riccitiello also has some praise for Modern Warfare developer Infinity Ward, along with something else, “I think the Infinity Ward guys are great. … I’m a fan of a lot of our competitors’ products. But if you’ve played Modern Warfare, and you’ve played the first one — and you’ve played the last Call of Duty — it’s sort of starting to feel like they’re making the same game again.”

Good luck with that. Call of Duty Kart would sell five million.

I would agree with the cods starting to feel the same. I mean they are amazing games. I have to admit im a bigger battlefield fan but mw1 and 2 even world at war have logged many hours on both my xbox and ps3. It was wierd got mw2 and played most it had to offer with a smile on my face i might add. But after a beatin single player a couple spec ops missions and up to lvl 45 smile faded and was sad because this was the first cod where i stopped and realized i was so bored of the formula. Believe me it was a tuff day. I know yall dont care but hey whats having the internet if you cant blab away. My point is everywhere i go its always a battle, everyone chooses sides, cant say anything negative or positive for either game and people pick on the smallest of details to prove there game choice is better. Bad company 2 is gonna rock!!! alot of the problems i had with the first are fixed to an extent, looks good and quite frankly for me has had alot more fun, exciting and memorable moments in the demo than i have had in the last 4 full game purchases. Call of duty will always be a great game and better than most that has been released ,but i do believe it is time for something different (bad company 2, medal of honor)to charge the minds of activision and infinity ward to be truly innovative with there next cod and raise the bar like moderwarfare 1 did.

I agree with doobins, it is getting a little old, and im am tired of the whole core thing. in most shooters for that matter. Why not just make the bullets a little stronger or the life a little less. i would definately play shooting games a lot longer if they did this. its ridiculous having to shoot someone w/ 12 bullets to kill them, and even worse when you start shooting them and they just turn to shoot and kill you. im pretty sure if u got 4, 7.62 bullets in your bullet proof vest the last thing youd be able to do is turn around and start shooting. that goes for MW2 and BBC2…. just a thought!
